       Since elementary school I’ve known I wanted to be a teacher. I couldn’t wait to have my very own classroom, plan all the lessons, and grade papers with a red inked pen! It wasn’t until I actually became a teacher that I realized the true joys of teaching children.

    I taught 1st grade for Alpine School District, and loved every minute of it! When it was “go time” I was unbelievably nervous to be in control of 26 little 1st graders. I was mostly stressed about the responsibility of teaching these young minds to read. I didn’t want to fail them. As I learned and implemented different reading strategies, I realized it was what I was meant to do it! Watching a young child struggle for months learning to blend sounds into words, and then suddenly seeing it click in their mind and take off reading created a feeling like none other. It was so incredibly fulfilling, and it brought so much joy into my heart.

    During the 14 years I have spent raising my 4 children, I have truly seen the differences in how children learn. It has been very eye opening and has pushed me to new levels of teaching. I was given the opportunity to teach a preschool class for the last half of the 2020/2021 school year. I remembered why I had ventured into the world of education years ago, and I loved being able to implement all the new things I’ve learned with my own children. I am excited to continue teaching preschool!

    Hello! I am thrilled to be teaching at Busy Bee Academy this year and look forward to getting to know, love and teach your children!

    Some of my fondest childhood memories are of playing school with my younger siblings (I am the oldest of 8). Even then I wanted my lessons to be hands on and fun and wanted to help them learn to love learning. I started working in early education in high school and my first job as a college student was teaching preschool. I’ve been teaching in different educational settings since then and I’ve found my favorite age of all to teach is preschool, where I’ve had over 10 years of experience. I love their natural curiosity and excitement towards learning. I love seeing the goodness and strengths of each child and I love being able to be there for them to help them grow, progress, and learn. My goal in teaching this age is the same as it was when I was teaching my siblings-to make learning a fun, engaging process and help each student feel like a confident and capable learner!

    I am CPR certified, First Aid Certified, I have taken several courses in the Pyramid Model Module for early education, and I have my Child Development Associates Credential.  I also have my bachelor’s degree from BYU where I took a few early education courses as well. Currently, I am working on my Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education and loving being able to apply what I'm learning right away! I am passionate about all things early education and child development!

    I have three children of my own and we love to learn and play together as well. I love music, hiking, camping, and getting out into nature whenever I can. I love learning too and am always looking for new books to read. I love anything that gets my brain going- good books, podcasts, conversations, etc. And I love to have opportunities to create, especially if I get to create things that help others learn, grow, and succeed! Which is another reason why I love teaching!

    I’m excited for the school year and can’t wait to be a part of your child’s educational journey!

The JOY of Student Led Learning!

       I have always loved teacher led learning. Even when I was a child, some of my fondest memories are of gathering my siblings around me as I taught them letters, numbers, took them on a nature walk or more. I loved leading them in learning. And I still do enjoy leading my students in learning. Having a teacher guiding students can be a wonderful way to help push them to new limits and have them learn new things they are ready for but don't have access to yet. Teacher led activities are an important part of any curriculum.     As I've worked longer and longer in pre-k classrooms, I am also learning to fall in love with student led learning. Student led learning has it's own advantages as well. When a student leads his or her own learning, retention is far more likely because he or she is enthusiastic and passionate about what he or she is choosing to learn. Handwriting in Preschool

 Growing up, handwriting seemed like a chore. I remember my teachers always getting onto me for my bad pencil grip (which I still have), and I remember having to practice writing over and over again by writing lines. It wasn't fun! That experience made me want to make sure my own students can find joy in all of learning, even handwriting!  My number one goal in teaching preschoolers is to help them learn that learning is fun! Their brains are developing their foundational building blocks that will influence them for the rest of their lives. That is why it is so important for children to enjoy school and enjoy what they do in school! I want to help wire their growing brains for a love of learning. With handwriting, I try to give them choices on how they get to practice their handwriting.
